Description
Newspaper clippings of articles by Rai on environmental issues. Part I includes broadsheets and articles about government oversight and policies about wildlife and the environment. This includes a discussion of measures for Sal borer epidemic; mining licences and permissions for tree-cutting and sawing in the Northeast; political pressures on environmental clearances for the Sanghi Ind project, the Mumbai Pune highway, Khao Creek jetty project and power projects as well as a notification to make people's consent mandatory; discussion of the conduct of environmental impact assessments such as the shortage of trained personnel; changes to forest act and forest policies, biodiversity policy; the Hanumantha Rao panel report on Tehri Dam; assessment of teak plantations run by companies; the export of medical plants; creation of an aquaculture panel; the undermining of the Environment and Forest Ministry. Key figures mentioned include Saifuddin Soz and Rajesh Pilot of the MoEF.
